We define our music as just toe-tappin', foot-stompin' gospel.
We're not superstars, I would say, but the main thing is we're singing for God. This is what we cherish most. A cappella, you know, was started years and years ago. We been doin' this all of our lives. We chose to do this the rest of our lives. God be willing and help us, that's what we plan to do. (Freeman) This is Fairfield Four style; this is tradition that has been goin' on since 1921. (Rice)
We believe in what we sing. That's, the gist of the whole mettle. Old people said "runnin' from heart to heart and breast to breast." If I sit up and sing something, and it reaches out to the audience out there and touches them, that's why we're still in the business. You know James Hill--God rest his soul--he used to say on stage, "Turn your mind toward Heaven and Heavenly things, and listen to the words of our song." Not just the harmony, I mean--we gotta make harmony--but listen to the words 'cause each song tells a story. And that's what were into. (Hamlin)
Are You Ready? Well, in order to be ready, you've got to put on the whole Armor of God, See: You got to know that the Father is there. And that you're going to do your best to go be with Him one day. So you got to put on the whole Armor of God. 'Cause the devil will try to get you out of it, but you got to be steadfast. (Waters)
In being ready, we're talking about the coming of Christ, being ready to meet your maker, which we all pray and strive to do one of these days. Everybody wants to go on, so if you're not ready, you need to get ready, get your house in order and get ready to go. (Freeman) I like the song; I think that it asks a very important question to young people, old people, middle age people. It's a spiritual song; it's a personal song, and you have to take it personal."
